26 15.773N 080 05.310W- Burnie and Katherine's dock
I found out that we are not in Pompano Beach; we are at Lighthouse Point.
Not much happened on the arch on Friday. Scott came by, and kindly took us to West Marine, where Charlie purchased all the straps, and other bits and pieces needed to hang the dinghy from the arch. In the afternoon, Charlie got them installed while we waited for Larry and our stern pulpits.
Larry finally arrived about the crack of noon the following day and worked until dark - it's the shortest day of the year, so that's not saying much!
On Sunday, Larry brought his wife Pam as his assistant, again they arrived as we were having lunch, but the arch did finally get completed, except for the "cat-bird" seats, which no longer fit, as the steel around them had been adjusted to fit to the arch.
Charlie and Howard had discussed that we would make cardboard templates of the needed catbird seats, and Howard would bring them to us in Hollywood next week. Before that happened, our host, Burnie, came by and started chatting with Charlie, and they decided that they could use Burnie's workshop in his garage to modify the existing seats.
Burnie is retired, but he has a work-ethic that would fit right in, in Oklahoma. He was ready to start at 0800 on Monday, and the two of them measured, sawed,
drilled, and by noon we were ready to leave, with the new seats installed, and the dinghy mounted on the arch.
Burnie and Katherine have decided to sell their home on the canal in Lighthouse Point. They are no longer as active on the water or in the pool or garden, and have decided that a condo in the area would serve them equally as well, as they also have a summer home in Maine. If anyone who is reading this would be interested in seeing their place, contact Burnie Radosh 2533 NE 26th Ave, Lighthouse Point FL 33064-8315 phone 954.612.0509 and he and Katherine would be glad to show it to you.
We bid farewell, and departed their dock at 1230. and by 1245 were transiting the Pompano Beach 14th Street Bridge, the first of ten bridges that afternoon!
Since it had been twenty years or so since we had seen Fort Lauderdale from the ICW, and we had the time, we decided to go the slow way, rather than a fast off-shore passage. The big houses from that era no longer look as large; many of them have been replaced by palaces!
We noticed some interesting outdoor art at some of the places we went by. Elephants, a metal family, a photographer, a golden fish, and a golden angel, as well a lots of seasonal decorations.
We caught the 1600 opening of the Hollywood Boulevard Bridge, and then entered the marina that is to be our home for a couple of weeks.
Loggerhead Marina at Hollywood, is where our Tulsa friends Bob and Betty Crawford now keep their beautiful yacht, Sovereignty. They also have a car here. We had seen them in Tulsa, just before we left, and Bob had given Charlie his car keys for us to use. Thanks Bob!
